What changes in Roblox parental controls when my kid turns 13?

By Boundly Team, Infinite Future · Last updated

The short answer

At 13, your kid takes over screen-time limits, blocking users and their own privacy settings, and monthly spending limits stop applying. You can still block and allow specific games, manage direct chat, and see screen time and top games until they turn 16. At 16 game blocking ends, and at 18 the accounts unlink.

What your kid takes over at 13

  • Screen-time limits
  • Blocking other users
  • Their own privacy settings (such as email and phone)
  • Voice and party chat after an age check, unless you restricted it
  • Ads preferences
  • Monthly spending limits stop applying

What you keep from 13 to 15

  • Managing Direct chat
  • Allowing specific games
  • Blocking specific games — Roblox extended this from age 12 to 15 in 2026
  • Adding Robux
  • Seeing screen time and top games, friends, Robux balance, birthday and age-check status
  • Opting in to spending notifications

At 16 and 18

From 16, “Settings you manage” shows only Notifications, Spending notifications and Activity updates, and game blocking ends. Parents can still see friends, screen time and spending. At 18 the accounts unlink automatically (Overview; As your child gets older).

Before the 13th birthday: a quick checklist

  1. Review Top games and block anything you're unsure about while you still control everything (how).
  2. Turn on Spending notifications → All transactions — alerts keep working after limits stop.
  3. Turn on Activity updates for the weekly email of screen time and top games.
  4. Set Direct chat off and Friends chat to Trusted friends; you can still manage direct chat after 13.
  5. Talk through what's changing, and agree what they'll do if someone asks them to move to another app.

Keep checking after 13: you can still block games until 16, and new games appear every week. See how to block a game.
